Donna Summer is dead, the last time I saw her was in New York 2009, she was shopping with her daughter for cosmetics in Bergdorf Goodman, she looked great.  The news comes as a shock for those who were unaware that she was ill: the Queen of Disco has succumbed to cancer at 63. In the year that claimed Whitney Houston, we lose yet another legend of black music, as well as a global gay icon. Donna Summer was the voice and the face that defined a whole genre: she will forever be known for her work with Giorgio Moroder, but her fame extended way beyond the golden age of Studio 54.
Donna Summer was the Queen of Disco and glitter, too: rhinestones, lamé and that shock of soft curls were part of her iconic style. Theatrical, dramatic and sexy: with her, we lose a piece of musical history as well as the voice that defined an era.
